Another heatwave is coming to the Canary Islands from Wednesday

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a warning for the third heatwave of the summer in the Canary Islands from Wednesday of this week, with initial temperatures of 36°C in the south of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, and Fuerteventura.

Today, Monday, strong northerly winds are forecast particularly at altitude, with cloudy intervals in the north of the more mountainous islands. Tomorrow (Tuesday), the trade winds are set to intensify, accompanied by a rise in temperatures as the heat starts to intensify.

The forthcoming heatwave will be the result of warm air from North Africa moving into the region, coupled with stable weather conditions caused by a high-pressure area, known as a dorsal, covering the whole Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands.

Wednesday Thursday and Friday will stay around 36 degrees, and then on Saturday temperatures will notably increase with “intense heat” over 40 degrees.

AEMET says that this heatwave is expected to persist until the following Saturday (19th August)… so be prepared.
