An illegal night party is thought to be the cause of the fire in La Palma
The Guardia Civil believe that the La Palma fire was started by human intervention with an ‘illegal party’ at a recreational area El Fayal area of Puntagorda, next to the LP-1 main road.
At the site where the alarm was raised, which is taped off by the Guardia Civil, you can clearly see a burnt out pickup truck and a burnt out bin that has melted to the floor.
Remembering that there was, and still is, an alert in place which prohibits barbeques or fires, and the time of the first call to the emergency services reporting it, which was at 1.05am, this is the hypothesis that the police are further investigating.
The Guardia Civil have confirmed the place of origin of the fire to Canarias Radio and believes that a group of people went to the recreation area, put music on in the pickup truck, and set fire to the bin to carry on partying. Unfortunately this, on face value, ‘innocent’ act, went terribly wrong and the fire spread uncontrollably.
A judicial investigation and forensic team from the Guardia Civil are investigating the causes of the fire by carefully inspecting the area.
