AENA reports ‘Some Disruptions’ at ‘airports amid widespread power outage

Spain’s airport management company, has confirmed that “some disruptions” are occurring at airports across the country as a result of the widespread power outage affecting numerous regions of mainland Spain.

In a statement published on the social media platform X, Aena explained that contingency generators have been activated to maintain operations. The company has advised passengers to check directly with their airlines for updates, particularly in light of access issues and disruptions to land-based transport services.

However, Aena has clarified to Europa Press that airports in the Canary Islands are operating normally. Flights to and from the archipelago have not, as yet, been affected by the outage, and services continue to run smoothly.

The widespread power outage, which began earlier today around 12:30pm, has affected not only Spain but also parts of Portugal and southern France. While the cause of the outage is still under investigation, Spanish authorities have indicated that efforts to restore normal electricity supply are ongoing.

Aena have reiterated their advice to passengers to plan for potential delays and to consult with airlines and airport services before travelling to the airport.
