The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast unsettled weather across the Canary Islands this Tuesday, with very strong winds, especially in the central peaks of Tenerife, where gusts could exceed 90 km/h. In general, temperatures will remain steady, while cloud cover and light rain are expected in some areas.
The winds will start light from the west or southwest early in the day but will strengthen by the afternoon, bringing rougher seas and a north swell of 1 to 2 metres across the entire archipelago.
Here’s a detailed look at what to expect on each island:
TENERIFE
The island will see a mix of low and high cloud throughout the day, becoming cloudier in the east and south during the afternoon. Light rain is possible in these areas later on.
At higher elevations, particularly around Teide National Park and Izaña, strong westerly winds will reach very strong gusts of more than 90 km/h, making conditions hazardous for hikers and drivers in exposed areas.
Temperatures will remain mild in coastal zones but could drop noticeably in the mountains, with a minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 28°C.
GRAN CANARIA
Partly cloudy skies with increasing high cloud through the morning. From midday, more cloud will build over the northern and eastern slopes, where light, occasional rain cannot be ruled out.
At the summit, winds will strengthen from the west and could become very strong in exposed areas, while the coasts will see moderate breezes.
Temperatures will be stable, with a slight dip in higher areas. High of 26°C, low of 21°C.
LANZAROTE
Skies will be mostly clear with some high cloud, turning slightly cloudier early and late in the day.
Light variable winds and sea breezes will dominate in the morning, strengthening from the southwest later. The day will remain dry, with warm and pleasant temperatures between 19°C and 29°C.
FUERTEVENTURA
Similar to Lanzarote, the island will enjoy mainly sunny skies with thin high cloud and some low cloud over western areas early and late in the day.
Winds will be light and variable at first, becoming southwesterly and moderate during the afternoon.
Temperatures will remain warm, especially in southern resorts such as Morro Jable and Costa Calma, with highs of 27°C and lows of 21°C.
At Sea:
Around the western islands, winds will blow from the west or southwest at force 3 to 5, while the eastern islands will see lighter, variable winds at force 1 to 3.
Seas will be slight to moderate in the west and calm to slight in the east, with a north swell of 1 to 2 metres expected throughout the archipelago.
Summary:
Visitors and residents should be prepared for strong winds and rough conditions, particularly in mountain areas of Tenerife and La Palma. Coastal and low-lying areas will remain mild and mostly dry, but outdoor activities at altitude should be approached with caution.
