AEMET warns of Calima in the Canary Islands today as temperatures go up

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecast for Boxing Day, is showing clear skies with intervals of clouds during the first half of the day, and a slight increase in temperatures mainly in the mountainous areas and northeast slopes of Tenerife and the western islands.

In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range from a maximum of 25 degrees in the south of Tenerife to a minimum of 12 degrees in Valverde (El Hierro). Meanwhile, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will range from a high of 22 degrees to a low of 16 degrees.

There is a possibility of light calima on the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in the early hours of the day, which is expected to diminish later in the afternoon. The wind will be variable, moderate from the northeast on the northwest and southeast slopes. At summits, it will blow from the north getting stronger from midday.

In the western province, the wind will be moderate from the northeast, and stronger on the southeast slopes, and initially in the northwest. In central summits, moderate northwest winds with intervals of strong winds are expected during the first half of the day, shifting to north winds in the second half of the day.
