The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated three yellow weather alerts across parts of the Canary Islands for Monday, due to a new episode of high temperatures, strong winds, and coastal phenomena.
Areas most affected
- Gran Canaria: Temperatures could reach up to 35°C on the western, southern, and southeastern slopes. A yellow warning for coastal conditions has also been issued, particularly in the southeast and southwest.
- Tenerife: Expected to exceed 30°C in municipalities across the west, south, and southeast.
- La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro: Yellow alerts are in place for strong wind gusts and coastal conditions.
Heatwave may last several days
According to Aemet, this new spell of hot weather could last up to five days, with temperatures remaining above seasonal averages across much of the archipelago.
Residents and tourists are advised to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day, and taking extra care near coastal areas affected by strong waves and winds.
