The Canary Islands are entering another period of high temperatures this weekend, with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) warning of a significant rise in heat, particularly in areas of higher elevation or altitude.
According to AEMET, today (Saturday) will be mostly clear across the islands, with some coastal cloud cover. Minimum temperatures will remain steady, while maximums are expected to rise slightly, becoming more pronounced in mountainous areas.
In Tenerife, temperatures could reach 30°C, while the minimum in El Hierro is expected to drop to 17°C.
The heatwave will intensify over the next few days, with Monday forecast to be the hottest day of this episode. Temperatures in the southern midlands and highlands of islands such as Tenerife, La Palma, and Gran Canaria could exceed 34°C in the shade.
In the province of Las Palmas, skies will also be mostly clear, except for some early morning cloudiness along the northern coastlines of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura. Maximum temperatures may reach 30°C in the southern and western midlands, particularly on Gran Canaria. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, highs of 26°C and lows around 22°C are expected.
Winds will remain light and variable, with a predominance of coastal breezes. However, stronger gusts are expected in the high mountain regions, especially during the latter half of the day.
Heat warnings, already active for Sunday in Gran Canaria, may be extended to other islands as conditions evolve. Authorities advise staying hydrated, avoiding sun exposure during peak hours, and being cautious in outdoor activities, particularly in the more vulnerable southern and southwestern highlands.
A gradual drop in temperatures is forecast from Tuesday, with a return to more typical seasonal conditions expected by Wednesday.
