The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated new yellow weather warnings across various Canary Islands due to the imminent arrival of a DANA, which is expected to bring intense rain and very strong wind gusts from tomorrow, Saturday 21st December.
Some areas may also experience hail during this weather event.
Gusts of wind up to 70 km/h expected in mountainous areas
The strongest winds, with gusts potentially reaching 70 km/h, will primarily affect the mountainous islands. Specific warnings have been issued for the following areas and times:
In all cases, the wind will have the greatest impact on summits and the northwest slopes of these islands.
Intense Rainfall in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
The eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will also face the effects of this DANA. Heavy rain, accumulating up to 15mm in an hour, is expected, accompanied by hail in certain locations. The rainfall warnings cover the following periods:
General Weather Outlook for the Weekend
According to AEMET, Saturday will bring variable cloud cover, which will persist more strongly in the northern areas of the mountainous islands, where frequent rain is forecast. Temperatures will decrease across the archipelago, though coastal areas will experience a less significant drop.
Winds are predicted to blow at moderate to strong intensity, particularly on the southeastern and northwestern slopes of Tenerife and the western islands. Very strong gusts are expected in higher altitudes, especially toward the end of the day.
