AEMET activates new weather warnings for Tenerife and Gran Canaria

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued new yellow weather warnings for this week in the Canary Islands, especially for heavy rainfall in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, and another for strong winds in La Palma and Tenerife.

Here are the latest weather warnings by islands:

TENERIFE:
There is a yellow warning for strong winds that will mainly affect the northern slopes of the island and its summits. The notice goes into effect at 3:00am tomorrow morning (Wednesday 7th December) and will last until 8:59pm. According to the forecast, maximum gusts of up to 80km/h are expected.

The warning for rain will also come into effect at 3:00am tomorrow (Wednesday) and will last until 5:59pm. It will mainly affect the north, south, east and west slopes of the island, except for the Anaga area, and especially inland and the summits. According to the forecast, accumulated precipitation of 20 mm in one hour is expected, especially on the southern and western slopes.

In the north, the expected figure is 15mm per hour, but the accumulated in 12 hours can reach up to 60mm.

GRAN CANARIA:
The warning for rain will come into effect at 6:00am on Wednesday and will last until 8:59pm. It will mainly affect the southern, eastern, and western slopes of the island, especially inland and at peaks. According to the forecast, an accumulated rainfall of 15mm is expected in one hour, especially on the summits and the southern and western slopes.

LA PALMA:
La Palma has a yellow warning for strong winds that will mainly affect the northern slopes and summits, as well as the El Paso area and the northwest of the island. The notice goes into effect at midnight tonight (12:00am Wednesday), and will last for 24 hours until 11:59pm. According to the forecast, maximum gusts of up to 80km/h are expected.

The warning for rain will come also into effect at midnight and will last until 2:59pm. It will mainly affect the eastern and western slopes of the island, especially inland and at peaks.

According to the forecast, accumulated precipitation of 20mm in one hour is expected, especially on the southern and western slopes, however, up to 60mm could accumulate in 12 hours on the east and west slopes.

LA GOMERA:
The warning for rain will come into effect at 03:00 on Wednesday and will last until 117:59. It will affect the entire island, and especially the summits and the western and southern slopes. According to the forecast, accumulated precipitation of 15 mm is expected in one hour, especially on the summits and on the southern and western slopes.

EL HIERRO:
The warning for rain will come into effect at 3:00am on Wednesday and will last until 5:59pm. It will affect the entire island, especially the summits and the western and southern slopes. According to the forecast, accumulated precipitation of 15mm is expected in one hour, especially on the summits and on the southern and western slopes.

LANZAROTE:
No active weather warnings at this time.

FUERTEVENTURA:
