The adverse weather conditions due to strong winds and the calima have caused dangerous sea conditions as highlighted on a video showing how close a boat came to disaster trying to enter the port of Los Gigantes over the weekend.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activated a yellow weather warning for strong waves and adverse sea conditions on Friday for Tenerife, with various parts of the island affected.
As can be seen in the video, the driver of the boat aimed it directly at the epicentre of the strong waves, facing them head-on, before being swept towards land and managing to steer in the lull between waves and escape into the safety of the sheltered port.

You can clearly see how close this incident came to being a disaster due to the dangerous power of the sea.
Also, the local authorities in the northern municipality of Garachico, closed the seafront road, the Avenido Maritimo, to traffic over the weekend due to waves crashing over the sea wall, flooding the road.
