THURSDAY WEATHER: 30°C with cloud, light calima and local showers across the islands

Temperatures will reach around 29–30°C in parts of the Canary Islands today, Thursday 15th October, although cloud cover and the chance of rain will vary between islands.

AEMET forecasts light calima in the eastern islands, spreading to higher ground in the western islands during the second half of the day. The dust is expected to be light, rather than a widespread, dense episode.

For residents and holidaymakers, the main picture is warm weather, with generally dry conditions in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Tenerife has a greater chance of local showers, while considerable cloud is forecast at Maspalomas beach in Gran Canaria.

Here is today’s forecast for each of the islands:

TENERIFE
Cloud will come and go across Tenerife, with lower cloud lingering in northern areas into the early afternoon.

In the southwest, Adeje is forecast to reach 30°C, with a minimum of 22°C. Its local forecast includes a chance of light rain, particularly during the afternoon, before returning to cloud intervals in the evening.

Puerto de la Cruz is expected to reach 29°C, with a minimum of 20°C. There is also a chance of light afternoon rain here.

Light calima may reach the island’s mid-altitude areas and summits later in the day. Coastal winds will be stronger in exposed southeastern and far northwestern areas.

GRAN CANARIA
A warm day is expected in Gran Canaria, with Maspalomas beach forecast to reach 30°C despite considerable cloud during both the morning and afternoon.

The beach forecast gives moderate winds, weak wave conditions and a sea temperature of 24°C. The UV index reaches seven, so sun protection remains important even beneath cloudy skies.

Elsewhere, early low cloud is expected in northern and eastern areas. Light calima will mainly affect higher ground, with temperatures rising in northern mid-altitude areas.

LANZAROTE
Lanzarote should remain dry, with intervals of high cloud and some lower cloud possible in eastern areas during the morning.

Tías is forecast to reach 29°C, with a minimum of 21°C. Arrecife’s forecast gives a maximum of 28°C and a minimum of 22°C.

Light calima may give the sky a slightly hazy appearance. Winds are generally expected to be light, although coastal areas could become breezier during the afternoon.

FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura also has a largely dry outlook, with morning cloud in eastern areas and high cloud during the day.

Antigua is forecast to reach 29°C, with a minimum of 19°C. Puerto del Rosario is expected to see temperatures between 22°C and 27°C.

Light calima is forecast, while winds may strengthen along the coast later in the day.

Temperatures refer to the named locations and can differ at nearby beaches and resorts. Anyone heading inland or towards higher ground should check the local forecast, while beachgoers should continue to follow lifeguard advice and the flags on their chosen beach.
