Due to the extended Christmas holidays in Spain, because of Kings Day on January 6th, a second wave of present buying is under way which is meaning more people in shopping centres and commercial main streets in Santa Cruz and La Laguna.
Both are registering a massive increase in people in large areas of the cities at a time when it is important not to forget the current restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19.
In Spain, Kings Day is more important than our traditional Christmas Day, and marks the 12th day of Christmas, the beginning of Epiphany when the three wise men bring gifts, sparking shopping frenzies across the country, so although you may think the festivities are over, they aren’t yet.
Authorities are not saying to not go shopping, but are requesting that you shop with your head and don’t lower your guard with preventive health measures, especially those that have to do with maintaining safety distances, as January may be harder than ever to bend the curve.
