Prosecutors want six years in prison for 70 year old man who abused a minor in Granadilla

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Prosecutor's Office is requesting six years in prison for a 70-year-old man accused of continual sexual abuse of a minor under 16, over a period of five months in the municipality of Granadilla in the south of Tenerife.

In addition, they are requesting a sentence of probation for 7 years during which time he will not be able to communicate with the victim or be within 500 metres of her, and pay 5,000 euros in compensation for moral damages.

The abuse began when the teenager joined a musical theatre group in the municipality and, after gaining the trust of her parents, the man was in charge of taking her home after rehearsals.

It started with ‘romantic and sexual messages’ which he sent through whatsapp, then went on to kissing and touching, as he took advantage of the fact that they were alone in the car together, to the point that on one occasion, after an exam in Adeje and on the way back to Granadilla, he took a diversion to El Médano and continued with ‘kisses and libidinous touching’, placing a sun parasol in such a position so as not to be seen by other people.

The teenage girl asked him to stop and moved his hand away, and finally in December told her parents and her father went to the police, only to find out that the man had gone to the police station himself three days before and confessed to officers that he had fallen in love with the minor, had had erotic conversations with her, and had touched her in inappropriate places.

The trial is being held on Thursday at 9:45am, in the second section of the Provincial Court in Santa Cruz.
