The CC (Coalición Canaria) and the PNC (Partido Nacionalista Canario) political parties are challenging the way the pandemic has been handled in Tenerife by the Cabildo and its president, Pedro Martin, and have presented seven specific measures to accelerate the reactivation of tourism in the face of the economic and social crisis on the island.
Among these measures, the nationalists highlight the need to maintain the ERTE, to intensify vaccination, and to regain connectivity. "In the absence of a specific plan by the Government of Spain, the Cabildo has the obligation to initiate actions to recover our main source of employment," says the nationalist councillor Diana Mora in a statement.
According to the CC, the Minister of Tourism for the Cabildo, José Gregorio Martín Plata, "has thrown in the towel" announcing his resignation because “he can’t handle the situation any longer." At the the same time they have criticized that "at the worst moment in the history of tourism activity for Tenerife, there is an absolute misrule in the Cabildo.”
