New earthquakes in the south and east of La Palma felt by the public

After registering several tremors above 3.0 degrees on the Richter Scale yesterday afternoon in the south of La Palma, a new swarm of tremors of greater intensity were reported last night by the National Geographic Institute (IGN).

The strongest of this new activity was a 4.0 degree earthquake recorded at 8.30pm last night at a depth of 15 kilometres in the municipality of Fuencaliente, which was felt by the population of the area.

Just before this one at 8.28pm, there was another recorded with an intensity of 3.5 degrees at a depth of 13 kilometres in Villa de Mazo, which is a town on the east side of the island behind the ridge of the current eruption.

The IGN have reported no change in the landscape and are closely monitoring the evolution of the activity as the eruption continues.
