The Masca ravine and trail reopens today after 3 years of improvements

During the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of residents have taken the opportunity to explore parts of Tenerife they’d never usually get the chance to do so. Today an old favourite re-opens after being closed for three years and having had improvements that have cost over one and a half million euros.

The Masca ravine is open again to visitors from today who can enjoy a safer route than the one that existed before, with a guided trail and signs indicating mobile coverage areas, which the Island Council and the Northwest municipalities hope, will leave behind the times when accidents in the ravine were practically monthly, with sometimes dramatic consequences for visitors.

In fact, "safety" and "conservation” have been the two main aims in the improvement works as explained yesterday by Isabel García, Councillor for Management of the Natural Environment and Security of the Cabildo de Tenerife, during the inauguration of the new visitor centre.
