The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) of the Government of the Canary Islands have reported that they received an alert at 1.42am this morning that a man had been stabbed on Avenida Santiago Puig in central Playa La Americas in the south of Tenerife.

The necessary emergency resources were immediately dispatched to the area, where SUC personnel found the 35-year-old man, bleeding heavily from a wound to his thigh. After treating him at the side of the road they could see it was a stab wound, and took him the short journey to Hospiten Sur by ambulance.

The National Police have instructed the corresponding proceedings to investigate further into the incident to find out more about the situation, so far all they have said is that the man was on his way home from the Veronicas area of Las Americas when he was attacked. They want to ascertain what happened between midnight, when all the bars are supposed to close, and 1.42am when the emergency call was made.

The injured man is stable in hospital after receiving treatment.
