A 29-year-old man died yesterday afternoon (Sunday) after suffering an accident whilst fishing off the rocks, and falling into the sea near the Punta de Teno lighthouse on the north coast of Tenerife, in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte, as reported by the Emergency Services Control Centre (CECOES).
The event occurred around 6:10pm when Emergency Services received an alert reporting that one person had fallen into the sea and two others had jumped into the water to help him.
The crew of a fishing boat that was in the area came to help after being warned of what was happening, and following instructions from CECOES, managed to rescue the three men from the water and took them to shore.
Paramedics were in place waiting for them and verified that one of them was in cardiorespiratory arrest, and started CPR to try and resuscitate him, as a medical GES helicopter arrived to airlift him to hospital, whilst one of the others was treated for cuts and bruises from the rocks.
They continued to try and revive him on the helicopter, but unfortunately to no avail, and he was pronounced dead on his arrival at hospital.
