According to the latest data provided by Involcan the lava flow managed to skirt the Todoque Mountain late this afternoon (Tuesday) and is continuing its relentless path to the sea through the municipality of Tazacorte where it is expected to reach the coast in the next few hours if it continues at its current speed.
The lava flow has already crossed the Carretera de la Costa (the coastal road) and is visible from the sea as it continues to advance on its path of fire and destruction. After passing the Todoque mountain, the damage is mainly to the banana plantations in the area which are the last obstacle for the lava to overcome to reach the sea.
Although it is not possible to know exactly when it will reach the sea, the Technical Director of PEVOLCA, Miguel Ángel Morcuende, pointed out that the confinement of the coastal neighbourhoods of Tazacorte is maintained in a preventive way, given the strong possibility that when it does it will generate hydrochloric acid emanations and explosions.
