Guide charged for organizing walking tours inside the volcano exclusion zone

The Guardia Civil have charged a man in La Palma who has been caught guiding a walking tour inside the exclusion zone of the volcano, leading people who had paid for the tour, into the restricted area on different roads and trails and see the La Palma volcano from a prohibited area.

This is classed as a serious offence in breach of the rules established since the eruption, which are in place to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors on the island.

All that is known is that the man is a foreigner and not Canarian, and that the police stopped him during a routine patrol in the exclusion zone, as he was leading four hikers who were unaware of the rules and surprised by the intervention.

After being identified, the man admitted to being the tour guide and charging for the excursion, however that didn’t protect the other four who have also been charged.

All have been sanctioned for breach of the Law for National Civil Protection, 17/2015 updated on July 9th, and the organizer for a serious infraction of this law, which carries fines of between 30,001 and 600,000 euros.
