The Insular Operational Coordination Centre (Cecopin) in Tenerife has reported of a forest fire in the Chajaña ravine in the municipality of Arico, today. Resources from the forest brigades of Tenerife have been dispatched to the area with a helicopter and a disaster vehicle.
Currently more fire fighting resources from the Natural Environment Management Area of the Tenerife Cabildo are being mobilised to the affected area.
Fire engines, emergency vehicles, 12 specialist technicians, and a helicopter are already working at the scene and more resources are on their way. The immense column of smoke is visible from various points in the south of the island.
The first calls giving notice of the fire were made around 11:43am today according to sources from the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (Cecoes) of the Canary Islands Government.
The fire is currently out of control and is moving towards a pine forest. Secondary sources have been generated and the intense wind and heat in the area are not helping the forestry teams, and they estimates that the perimeter of the fire is approximately one kilometre.
