A five-year-old boy is seriously ill after drowning in a hotel pool in Tenerife

A five-year-old boy was rescued by a lifeguard in a hotel in Guía de Isora in Tenerife yesterday afternoon, after suffering from all but drowning in the hotel pool. The minor needed CPR at the poolside to eliminate water from his lungs and to get him breathing again, which was started by the lifeguard before health personnel from the Alcala Medical Centre took over.

The Emergency Services call centre received an alert at 1.45pm yesterday afternoon requesting urgent assistance to the drowning of a young boy in their pool, and immediately activated the necessary emergency resources.

When SUC paramedics arrived at the scene the boy was breathing again but was in some distress, so was transferred by ambulance to hospital for further treatment, but is expected to make a full recovery.

This is the second time in a week that hotel lifeguards have saved the life of young children, following an incident in Playa Del Ingles in Gran Canaria earlier in the week.
