A 37-year-old cyclist has been injured after colliding with a car and falling into a ravine in Tenerife, prompting a rescue operation by firefighters, according to reports by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES)

The accident happened on the TF-12 road in Santa Cruz at around 2:15pm yesterday (Thursday), when the 112 emergency call centre received an alert reporting a collision between a car and a bicycle.

Emergency services were informed that the cyclist had fallen into a small ravine following the impact and needed medical assistance, so dispatched the Fire Brigade, ambulances, and the Guardia Civil to the location given.

Firefighters rescue cyclist from ravine

When firefighters arrived, they made their way down to the injured cyclist and brought him back up to where medical staff were waiting.

After rescuing the cyclist safely from the ravine, paramedics assessed the 37-year-old man at the scene and found that he had suffered a moderate injury to his collarbone, subject to further medical examination.

After receiving initial treatment, he was taken by ambulance to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Guardia Civil investigating the accident

Officers from the Guardia Civil also attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

They are preparing the corresponding accident report to establish exactly how the car and bicycle collided before the cyclist left the road and fell into the ravine.

No information has been released regarding any injuries to the occupants of the car.
