The latest data from the Ministry of Health shows that daily cases have doubled over the last 5 days from 42 on Saturday to 87 today; however, it is also the fifth day in a row with no Covid related deaths. Of the new cases today, 40 are in Tenerife, 38 are in Gran Canaria, 5 are in Lanzarote and 4 are in Fuerteventura, with none in La Palma, La Gomera or El Hierro.
Incidence rates over 7 days have increased again for the islands because there are more cases, as has the R rate of incidence which is now 0.91. This number indicates the spread of the virus and how it is passed on by one person. Currently, six regions of Spain have seen a sharp increase in this rate alongside an increase in daily numbers, and have a value above 1.00.
The Ministry have also notified of 33 new outbreaks this week with 132 associated cases, of which 22 have occurred in Gran Canaria, 5 in Tenerife, 5 in Fuerteventura and 1 in Lanzarote. Of these, 15 are in socially vulnerable groups, 7 from social gatherings, 4 are work-related, 4 from family gatherings, 2 in schools, and 1 sports related.
