Covid update: 163 new cases today, the highest number since August

The Canary Islands is finishing the week with 163 new cases of Covid reported by the Ministry of Health, the highest daily total since 179 on August 29th over two months ago. Gran Canaria has the most with 79 new cases, followed by Tenerife with 52, there are 14 in Fuerteventura, 12 in Lanzarote, 3 in La Palma, and 3 in La Gomera.

Obviously, more new cases are expected in the winter season as viruses are more prevalent, but the hope that 84% of the target population have now been fully vaccinated, and that the booster dose and flu vaccine are being administered, should mean that the spread of the virus is controllable, but the importance of getting vaccinated cannot be overstated.

As per the trend of the last two weeks, active cases and incidence rates are continuing to go up, all be it slowly, and hospitalisations and deaths are staying stable with 1,224 active cases now in the islands, of which 104 are in hospital wards and 14 are in ICU.
