Covid update: 86 new cases in the Canaries today as incidence rates increase again

The downward trend that the Canary Islands has experienced in the last six weeks since the fifth wave of the virus, continues to show signs of slowing as incidence rates increase again, hospitalisations have gone up, as has the positivity rate of PCR tests.

Today, 86 new cases have been reported by the Ministry of Health, with 47 in Tenerife, 30in Gran Canaria, 8 in Lanzarote, and 3 in Fuerteventura. With 125 people medically discharged in the last 24 hours, active cases have dropped by 39 to 850, with 77 Covid patients in wards and 18 in ICU.

The IA7 for the islands has gone above 25 now to 26.61, and the IA14 is now 43.84. Lanzarote still has the highest incidence rates, but Tenerife and Gran Canaria are both now over 25 for 7 days, and Lanzarote now has an IA14 approaching 60.

All Lanzarote’s are still at low risk, particularly hospital pressure as it is the other two islands that have between 70% and 90% pressure, so should not as yet be in danger of changing alert level on Thursday, but they need to get back to the downward trend as soon as possible.
