On the night of Wednesday to Thursday last week, May 6th, an incident occurred which has shocked residents of a complex in San Eugenio in Adeje in the south of Tenerife. A British resident, allegedly accompanied by two other men of Moroccan nationality, entered a property in the Island Village complex with the intention of robbing it, but the occupants, after being surprised by them, had a scuffle which led to the fatal stabbing of one of the burglars, Andrew Walch.
In the house were the owner of the property, his sister and her boyfriend who have all been arrested, unlike the other two alleged burglars who fled the scene. Apparently Andrew, also known as Ed, was intending to steal cash and a Rolex watch from the property before being confronted.
According to the account of the events, his injuries were so serious that he was bleeding when he tried to escape from the place up a flight of stairs on the complex, which is where he collapsed.
At the moment the National Police, who led away the three arrested accompanied by their lawyer, have only confirmed that a 31 year old British man died from his injuries, supposedly a stab wound to his neck.
A police spokesman said: “The death was violent and occurred at a property in the municipality of Adeje. There have been arrests. The matter is still under investigation and there is nothing more we can add at this stage although we may be able to say more later.”
According to UK press reports, Andrew Walch had served time in jail in the UK for drug smuggling after participating in an incident in which, using a drone, he and several accomplices tried to smuggle drugs into an English prison. He had lived in Adeje for a year after moving to Tenerife to ‘start a new life’.
The police investigation is ongoing.
