Arrested in Scotland for trying to strangle a woman in Tenerife

A 30 year old man has been arrested by police in Scotland, after he was reported for trying to strangle a woman whilst on holiday in Tenerife, using domestic abuse laws protecting victims abroad.

The accused, Aaron Graham, was reported to Police Scotland by his victim, who was his girlfriend at the time, in July 2019 after a holiday away together to the Canary Island.

During the investigation, five other females in their 20s were identified and several more allegations made against Graham for similar offences.

Detective Inspector Iain Renfrew warned crooks they can still be arrested for striking overseas. He said: “No matter where domestic offences occur we will pursue offenders to ensure they are held responsible for their actions.”

This conviction is one of the first of its kind under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018.
