The National Police in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have arrested an educator at a youth care centre on suspicion of sexually assaulting three girls living at the facility.
The arrest took place on 3rd September following an investigation by the Family and Women’s Protection Unit (UFAM), which began after a member of staff reported concerns.
The employee provided investigators with conversations in which the suspect allegedly requested intimate images from two minors.
According to police sources, the investigation confirmed there are at least three victims. Officers believe the man first sought to build friendships with the girls in order to gain their trust, before taking advantage of moments alone with them to commit increasingly serious acts of a sexual nature.
The suspect was detained after the police concluded their inquiries and was brought before the courts. The judge released him, but issued a restraining order to protect the girls while the case continues.
Authorities stress that the investigation remains open to determine the full extent of the alleged offences.
