A 40-year-old woman is in a serious condition in hospital after crashing the electric scooter she was riding into a wall on Thursday afternoon in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the incident occurred at around 4:45pm on Calle Doctor González Coviella in the capital.

Emergency services were quickly dispatched following the alert, which reported that the woman had collided with a wall and urgently required medical assistance.

Medical staff treated the woman at the scene for multiple serious injuries before transferring her by ambulance to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital for further treatment.

Local Police officers managed traffic in the area while conducting the necessary investigation and preparing the official report.

The accident comes amid growing calls from local authorities, including the PSOE in Arona, for tighter control and sanctions to address the increasing number of electric scooters on Tenerife’s streets.
