Woman robbed at knifepoint in Tenerife
A 66-year-old man has been arrested by Local Police officers in Santa Cruz after allegedly attempting to rob a woman near the Galcerán Bridge last night (Thursday). According to police sources, the suspect, identified as J.P.G.S., tried to steal a mobile phone from a woman who was returning home after finishing work.
The victim fought back and was helped by several passers-by who witnessed what was happening, forcing the man to run away. One of the witnesses immediately alerted the Local Police and kept them informed over the phone while following the suspect in his vehicle.
Thanks to this person's quick thinking and cooperation, officers were able to locate the man shortly afterwards on Calle Bravo Murillo, along with the knife he had used in the attempted robbery, which he had tried to dispose of during his escape.
The National Police assisted the victim, while Local Police officers arrested the suspect and recovered the weapon. He was taken to a health centre for a medical check-up before being transferred to police headquarters, where he was placed at the disposal of the authorities.
This is not the first time police in Tenerife have dealt with violent street robberies involving knives. In recent months, officers in Santa Cruz have responded to several similar incidents, including muggings near Avenida de Anaga and Plaza Weyler, where victims were threatened for their phones and handbags. In one case, a tourist was attacked in broad daylight but managed to raise the alarm, leading to a quick arrest.
In Los Cristianos, police detained a suspect accused of using a large knife to threaten a passer-by during a robbery. These cases have led to authorities stepping up patrols and increasing surveillance in busy areas such as Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje, particularly during late-night hours.
