A 60-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being rescued from the sea with symptoms of drowning at Los Cristianos beach, in the south of Tenerife.
The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) have reported that the incident took place on Monday, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Beach lifeguards had pulled the woman from the water showing clear signs of drowning, and CECOES dispatched two ambulances and medical personnel to the location given on the beach.
On arrival, paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the woman in an attempt to stabilise her condition. She was initially transported to a hospital nearby in the south, before being transferred to the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital in the island's capital, where she remains in a critical state.
The Local Police were also present and carried out the necessary procedures following the incident. At present there is no update regarding her condition.
