A 69-year-old female tourist has died after being pulled from the sea in cardiopulmonary arrest at Puerto Rico Beach in Mogán, Gran Canaria, according to the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred around 4:00pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday) when the 1-1-2 operations centre received multiple calls about a woman rescued from the water in cardiac arrest by lifeguards, so CECOES immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the location given.
A lifeguard and a nurse performed CPR on the woman until the SUC medical personnel arrived and continued with advanced resuscitation efforts, which, unfortunately, were unsuccessful.
An emergency helicopter flew over the area but wasn’t needed as the woman had already passed away. Local Police and Civil Protection officers assisted, and the Guardia Civil took charge of the body until the coroner gave permission for it to be taken for official identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
