A woman died yesterday, Monday, after being rescued from the sea, showing signs of drowning at Playa de Troya, one of the most popular beaches in Playa Las Americas in the south of Tenerife.
According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) the alert was raised at 12:30pm, when beach lifeguards pulled the woman from the water in cardiorespiratory arrest, caused by the amount of water she had inhaled, and immediately began resuscitation efforts.
Emergency services, including a medicalised ambulance and a basic life support unit from the SUC, were quickly dispatched to the scene, along with beach rescue personnel, and officers from both the National and Local Police.
Despite continued advanced CPR techniques by paramedics, the woman could not be revived, and her death was confirmed at the scene.
The National Police have taken charge of the investigation and are handling the necessary procedures, while the Local Police assisted in managing the incident on-site. No details have been released regarding her identity at this stage.
This tragic event follows other recent water-related incidents in the Canary Islands, highlighting growing concerns over beach safety. Authorities are once again urging beachgoers to exercise extreme caution while swimming, especially during peak summer months.
