Woman arrested in south Tenerife for 13,000 euro mobile phone scam

The Guardia Civil are carrying out an investigation into a 38-year-old woman in Arona in the south of Tenerife, accused of committing the crimes of fraud, usurpation, and using fake documents to obtain 13,000 euros worth of mobile phones.

The investigation began after the female owner of a company in the south of Tenerife, filed a complaint with the police because another woman had allegedly impersonated her to acquire eleven high-end smartphones to the value of 13,000 euros, generating a debt that the network operator is now claiming from her company.

Officers opened an investigation and managed to identify the woman responsible for the purchase of the mobile devices, who had allegedly used falsified documents of the identity of the company owner, and detain her for questioning.

During a police interview, the 38-year-old resident of Arona admitted to the scam, although so far the mobiles haven’t been recovered. She is now in custody of the courts in Los Cristianos where she is awaiting trial.

The Guardia Civil wants to point out how this case highlights the importance of citizen collaboration with security forces to deal with economic crimes and protect people from this type of scam.

They have confirmed that they will continue working on the investigation to clarify all the details of the case and recover the stolen mobile devices.
