AEMET are forecasting cloudy skies with light rain in parts of the Canary Islands today, Wednesday, alongside slightly warmer  temperatures than recent days, and strong trade winds in most areas.

Northern parts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria are expected to see mostly cloudy to overcast conditions with light rain. In contrast, the southern areas of these islands will experience variable cloud, with clearer skies later in the day.

In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, intervals of cloud are expected during the morning, becoming mostly clear by this afternoon.

Temperatures will change very little across the archipelago, although slight frost may occur on the central peaks of Tenerife.

Moderate to strong trade winds will blow throughout the islands, with occasional very strong gusts forecast in higher areas and on the south-east and north-west slopes of the more mountainous islands.

Rough seas expected

At sea, north-easterly winds of force 5 to 6 are forecast, locally increasing to force 7. Sea conditions will be rough, building from strong swell to very rough at times. A north or north-west swell of between 1 and 2 metres is expected to increase to between 2 and 3 metres.

Island-by-island forecast for Wednesday 11th March 2026:

Lanzarote
Cloudy intervals are expected, becoming mostly clear during the afternoon on southern slopes. Minimum temperatures will remain largely unchanged, while maximum temperatures may rise slightly. Moderate to strong trade winds are forecast, particularly during the second half of the day when isolated very strong gusts are possible inland.
General temperature range: Low of 15°C and high of 22°C.

Fuerteventura
Cloudy intervals will clear gradually from around midday. Minimum temperatures will see little change, with maximum temperatures rising slightly. Moderate trade winds with strong intervals are expected, especially early in the day and later in the afternoon in inland areas and south of Jandía, where locally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 22°C.

Gran Canaria
The north of the island will see predominantly cloudy skies with light to occasionally moderate rain, especially in mid-altitude areas during the morning and afternoon, when showers could become locally persistent. In the south, skies will be partly cloudy, becoming mostly clear by the end of the day. Minimum temperatures will remain steady, while maximum temperatures may remain unchanged or rise slightly. Moderate to strong trade winds are expected, with occasional very strong gusts in summit areas and on north-west and south-east slopes. Gusts will be more frequent early in the day and later in the afternoon. Light coastal breezes are expected on the south-west coast.
General temperature range: Low of 15°C and high of 21°C.

Tenerife
Cloudy skies are expected in the north with light to occasionally moderate rain, particularly in the north-east where showers may persist. Elsewhere there will be intervals of cloud, with generally cloudier conditions in the west. Temperatures will change little overall, although maximum temperatures may fall slightly in higher areas. Weak frost is possible on the central peaks. Moderate to strong trade winds are forecast with occasional very strong gusts on the south-east slopes and the far north-west of the island. These gusts are likely to be more frequent overnight and around midday. Light breezes are expected in the west.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 22°C.
