AEMET are forecasting mainly fine conditions across the Canary Islands today, Wednesday, although stronger winds and some cloud, particularly in the north of the islands, are expected.

Skies will be mostly clear across much of the region, but clouds will be more persistent in the more mountainous islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. There is also a slight chance of light, scattered showers in mid-altitude areas, mainly early in the day.

Temperatures and Wind Conditions

The familiar north-easterly trade winds (alisios) will continue, with intervals of strong winds and the likelihood of occasional very strong gusts, especially on south-east and north-west slopes. Temperatures are set to rise slightly.

In contrast, south-west coastal areas are set to experience lighter sea breezes, offering calmer conditions. At higher altitudes, winds will generally be light and easterly.

Sea Conditions

At sea, conditions will be moderate to rough. North-easterly winds of force 5 to 6 are expected, occasionally reaching force 7 offshore. This will generate moderate to rough seas, along with a northerly swell of between 2 and 3 metres.

Island-by-Island Forecast for Wednesday 15th April 2026:

Gran Canaria
Mostly clear overall, though cloud will dominate in the north, with a slight chance of light, scattered showers in mid-altitude areas early on. Temperatures will rise slightly. Strong winds and occasional very strong gusts are expected on south-east and north-west slopes, while the south-west will see lighter breezes. Winds at higher levels will ease through the morning.
General temperature range: Low of 17°C and high of 23°C.

Lanzarote
Cloudy intervals clearing to mostly sunny after midday. There is a chance of light calima (haze) at higher levels later in the day. Temperatures will remain rise slightly. Strong winds are likely at times in the south during the morning, with a risk of very strong gusts.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 24°C.

Fuerteventura
Similar conditions, with early cloud giving way to sunshine. Light calima is also possible later. Temperatures will remain stable, with slightly higher daytime highs. Moderate trade winds will persist.
General temperature range: Low of 16°C and high of 24°C.

Tenerife
Largely clear skies with more cloud in the north, where light, occasional showers cannot be ruled out, particularly in north-east mid-altitude areas. Temperatures will remain stable. Strong winds with occasional very strong gusts are expected in exposed areas, easing later in the day. Western coastal areas will enjoy lighter breezes.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and high of 24°C.

Overall, it will be another pleasant spring day across the islands, though residents and visitors should remain aware of strong winds in exposed areas and slightly unsettled conditions in the north.
