A rockfall occurred early yesterday morning (Wednesday) in the Natero ravine, located close to the famous Masca gorge in Tenerife, causing a dramatic dust cloud that was visible several miles away.

The collapse happened shortly before 7:30am when a rural guard spotted earth and rocks tumbling down the steep terrain. Emergency protocol was activated and technicians from the public company Tragsa were sent to carry out a precautionary inspection of the affected area.

Fortunately, no injuries or material damage have been reported following the incident, according to initial checks at the scene.

Monitoring instruments belonging to Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) also recorded the movement, which is typical in regions with steep, fragile landscapes.

The Natero ravine sits in one of the most geologically unstable areas of the northwestern coastline, where natural landslides occur relatively often due to the rugged volcanic terrain.

A video filmed by TikTok user ValentinHdez captured the moment of the rockfall and the large dust cloud that followed, which he said could be seen from Punta de Teno.

Authorities are reminding hikers and visitors that nature in these areas can be unpredictable, and to always follow official safety advice when exploring Tenerife’s iconic ravines.
