A large cannabis farm has been raided in the south of Tenerife, with one man arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking offences, according to the Guardia Civil and Spain’s Customs Surveillance Service. The police operation uncovered a property allegedly being used for the cultivation, processing and distribution of cannabis products.
Officers discovered 696 marijuana plants at various stages of growth, along with 1.5 kilos of hashish and 1,033 cannabis buds. Also seized were 211 pre-rolled cannabis cigarettes, nine grams of cannabis resin (rosin), several containers of cannabis syrup or derivatives, €1,500 in cash, and a mobile phone.
Investigation began last year
The operation began in November last year following intelligence coordinated by the anti-drugs prosecutor’s office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
During the initial phase, investigators gathered sufficient evidence to move forward with dismantling the site.
Major operation involving specialised units
A large-scale operation was launched involving specialist Guardia Civil units focused on financial and customs investigations, alongside the Tenerife operational unit of Customs Surveillance.
As a result, police authorities say they have completely dismantled a significant illegal cultivation and processing network. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the drugs were distributed and their intended destination.
The suspect, who reportedly has previous convictions for similar offences, has been placed at the disposal of the courts along with the seized drugs and evidence.
