A much-loved picnic area in the south of Tenerife has been left looking like a rubbish tip after careless visitors abandoned piles of rubbish over the weekend.
Shocking footage shared by the Department of Public Works at Granadilla de Abona Town Hall shows the municipal picnic area covered in litter, with bottles, food containers and rubbish scattered across the grounds.
Council officials have slammed the behaviour, warning that it is "everyone’s responsibility to care for our environment and leave it as we found it". They also reminded the public that the more the community looks after public spaces, "the more we can all enjoy them".
The scenes have sparked fury on social media, where disgusted residents and holidaymakers branded the behaviour "shameful". Some even called for the popular spot to be shut down altogether, claiming that if visitors cannot follow basic rules, they should not be allowed to use the facilities at all.
It remains unclear whether the Town Hall will introduce tougher measures to prevent future incidents, but for now, they are pleading with the public to show more respect for shared spaces and dispose of their rubbish properly.
