Residents of Santa Cruz in Tenerife were left gobsmacked this morning, Wednesday, after a man was caught jogging completely naked through the heart of the city.
The bold streaker was spotted pounding the pavement on Calle Viera y Clavijo just after sunrise, wearing nothing but his trainers – and a very noticeable lack of clothing.
Shocked passers-by watched in disbelief as the man carried on without a care in the world.
Police were quickly on the scene, with officers approaching the man to demand an explanation. The jogger, who remained calm and cooperative, was promptly identified and escorted to the police station. According to authorities, he didn’t resist or cause any trouble.
While stripping off for a morning run might not be classed as a criminal offence under Spanish law, Santa Cruz – like many cities in Spain – has strict local rules and ordinances about public behaviour.
Under the city's regulations on civic conduct, those caught baring all in public spaces could be slapped with fines of up to €750, depending on the circumstances.
Bystanders described the surreal scene as “something out of a film,” with one onlooker saying, “We thought it was a prank at first – then we realised he really was totally nude.”
The incident has triggered a storm of reactions online, with some calling it a harmless stunt and others demanding tougher enforcement of public decency laws.
No official motive has been given for the man’s early-morning escapade, but police say they are continuing to investigate.
