Professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Sinead Kavanagh, was arrested at Gran Canaria Airport yesterday, Monday, after allegedly assaulting two Guardia Civil officers during an incident aboard a flight bound for Ireland, according to reports from Canarias7.
The aircraft’s crew reportedly requested assistance from the Guardia Civil after being unable to calm the passenger’s aggressive behaviour before the plane even took off.
When the officers boarded the plane, Kavanagh allegedly resisted arrest and struck them several times, causing injuries serious enough to place both agents on medical leave.
After several minutes of struggle, officers managed to restrain her and escorted her to Guardia Civil facilities in Vecindario, where she was held overnight.
The fighter appeared before the duty court in Telde today, Tuesday, which ordered her release on provisional liberty. She remains under investigation for assault and offences against law enforcement officers.
