A 24-year-old woman was airlifted to safety yesterday, Saturday, after suffering an injury while hiking along the trail that connects Afur with Taborno, in the Anaga mountain range in the north of Tenerife.
According to reports from the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), which released footage of the rescue, the incident occurred at around 1:00pm when the hiker fell and was unable to continue the route.
The rescue operation
A helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) was deployed to retrieve the woman, who was found to have sustained a moderate injury to her lower limb.
Rescue teams airlifted her to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where an ambulance was waiting so paramedics could assess her and then transfer her to the HUC Hospital for further treatment.
Safety reminder for hikers
Anaga is one of Tenerife’s most stunning but also most challenging natural areas, with steep trails, uneven terrain, and sudden weather changes. Authorities remind hikers to wear appropriate footwear, carry water, and ensure they are fit for the route before setting out. It is also advisable to check trail difficulty in advance and avoid hiking alone whenever possible.
