The Guardia Civil have arrested six people and placed another under investigation in an anti-drug operation that resulted in the seizure of 53 bales of hashish, weighing a total of 2,075 kilograms, from a vessel off the coast of Garachico in northern Tenerife.
The investigation began following intelligence shared between the Guardia Civil and the Moroccan Directorate-General for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), which provided information about a vessel suspected of carrying a large quantity of drugs towards the Tenerife coast.
In response, police set up a surveillance operation along the coastline. Officers soon confirmed their suspicions when they spotted six people physically unloading bales from a semi-rigid boat at El Guincho beach, as you can see in the video below.
Swift Action and Arrests
Officers moved in immediately, arresting all six suspects on the spot and seizing the drug shipment. According to the Guardia Civil, four of the detainees were actively unloading the bales, while two others acted as skippers of the boat.
The detainees are facing charges related to drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organisation.
Seized Evidence and Judicial Proceedings
In addition to the narcotics, officers also confiscated five mobile phones and various documents, which are expected to aid further investigations.
The operation was carried out by multiple units, including the Organic Unit of Judicial Police, Fiscal and Border Section, Citizen Security, Provincial Maritime Service, and the Traffic Group.
The suspects, along with all case files and evidence, have been handed over to Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 in Icod de los Vinos, where legal proceedings are now underway.
