Emergency services responded swiftly to an apartment fire in Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, this afternoon (Saturday), when smoke was seen coming from the first floor of a building on Calle Ramón Pino, a busy street parallel to Avenida de Suecia, in one of the town’s most central areas.

According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the alarm was raised shortly after 12:15pm by several residents who noticed smoke and alerted the authorities.

Firefighters from the Bomberos de Tenerife were quickly dispatched to the address given, along with units from the Local Police of Arona and the National Police.

Rapid Response Prevents Major Damage

Upon arrival, firefighters entered the apartment and managed to bring the blaze under control within a short period of time, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. The affected area was ventilated to remove smoke and ensure the safety of the residents in the building.

While the interior of the apartment sustained significant smoke and heat damage, emergency teams confirmed that no one was injured. Several neighbours were briefly evacuated as a precaution while crews ensured there was no structural risk or gas leakage.

Authorities Investigate the Cause

The Guardia Civil and local fire investigators have opened an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire. Early indications suggest that it may have started in the living area of the property, although officials have not yet ruled out an electrical fault or unattended cooking materials as possible origins.

Once the situation was stabilised, firefighters continued safety inspections throughout the building to verify that no other apartments were affected. The Local Police reopened the surrounding streets to traffic after ensuring that the property was secure.

Community Reactions and Safety Reminder

Residents expressed relief that the incident did not result in injuries, highlighting the quick and coordinated response of emergency services. The event also served as a reminder of the importance of fire safety precautions in residential areas, particularly in densely populated coastal towns like Los Cristianos, where many buildings contain both residential and holiday rental properties.

Authorities are urging homeowners and tenants to check electrical appliances, avoid overloading sockets, and never leave cooking unattended. They also recommend keeping fire extinguishers or blankets accessible and ensuring that stairwells and exits remain unobstructed.
