United Airlines will resume direct flights from Tenerife to New York in June

With the aim of attracting more travellers from the United States and Canada, Turismo de Canarias is participating in various events organized by Turespaña with selected travel agents visiting the islands to learn about them firsthand. Following this, United Airlines will resume direct flights from Tenerife to New York on Friday 9th June.

Turespaña is holding these events in Mallorca where meetings with representatives of travel agencies and tour operators from the US and Canada are being held so that the Canarian delegation can show them the advantages of the islands.

In addition, tours are being organized in the cities that the travel agents themselves choose, and in the case of the Canary Islands, they are coming to Tenerife and Gran Canaria, where they will be able to enjoy a program of experiences and activities exclusive to the archipelago.

New York flights will resume in June.
United Airlines have confirmed that they will resume three flights a week direct from New York to Tenerife from June 9th. Although the market share of the US and Canada in the Canary Islands is still not very high, Europe is the number one destination chosen by North Americans to travel to, with Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Spain at the top of their list.

According to Frontur, when they visit Spain they go to more than one place as they are accustomed to making stopovers and flying long distances within their own country. Their favourite areas are Barcelona, Madrid, Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Valencia, and Galicia, and now the opportunity for them to extend their trip to include the Canary Islands is proving very popular with a direct flight home.

The islands break a record of tourists from the United States and Canada in 2023:
US tourism in Tenerife is growing, and already in 2023 the islands have attracted 2,011 tourists from the United States, 325% more than the 473 who came in 2019. This number is expected to continue growing thanks to the direct flights.

The North American tourist stays in Spain for one week on average and spends about 1,890 euros per trip. Canadians travel mainly to the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America. When they come to Europe, they prefer France, Italy, UK, Spain and Greece.

Like Americans, they don’t mind making a stopover to reach their destination. Their average cost per trip is 2,121 euros and they stay for eight days.
