The National Police have arrested a 36-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, accused of four robberies with violence or intimidation in and around Los Cristianos, Las Americas, and Costa Adeje.
According to the police report, they operated at night and selected tourists as their victims, especially women, whom they attacked by threatening them, physically attacking them, or jumping them from behind to steal their valuables.
Following denuncias (official complaints) from victims, the National Police discovered that, since the second half of February, several violent robberies had been committed with similar characteristics on female tourists.
On each occasion, it was the man wearing a hoodie who attacked and stole from the women, while his female accomplice was waiting in a getaway car which they used to escape.
The police investigation focused on the getaway car, and after studying CCTV footage they were able to match a vehicle to the description given by the victims and identified the couple responsible who live in Los Cristianos.
After getting a search warrant, agents went to the residential address of the suspects and officially identified and arrested them before searching the property, finding items that linked them to the assaults, including clothes worn in the robberies and stolen personal items belonging to the victims.
The detainees, one of whom already has a police record, were handed over to the competent judicial authority after testifying, and the stolen artifacts are being returned to their rightful owners.
