Two injured in serious paragliding accident in Tenerife

Two men were injured on Friday, one seriously, following a paragliding accident in the La Vera ravine, located in the Las Cañadas del Teide area of Tenerife.

The incident involved a tandem paraglider that crashed to the bottom of the ravine.

Emergency responders from the Red Cross Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE) were first to arrive at the scene, providing initial treatment to the injured men.

According to the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), the accident left one of the men with a severe leg fracture and the other with multiple contusions.

The 45-year-old man with the severe leg injury was stabilised on-site before the evacuation, while the second individual, who sustained moderate injuries, was also assessed and treated promptly.

The injured men were airlifted by helicopter to Tenerife North Airport where a medical team were waiting to take them to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias for further treatment.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the accident, and an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the crash.
