The Local Police and the Guardia Civil have launched an investigation into the two fires in the El Rosario area of Tenerife, on Sunday, stating that they were both started deliberately
Teams from the Forest Fire Brigade (BRIFOR), along with volunteers from the El Rosario Civil Protection group, have contained the fires but remain in the affected areas to continue cooling the land to prevent re-ignition.
El Rosario's Mayor, Escolástico Gil, along with senior Local Police officials, visited the site of the second fire in Lomo Pelado early yesterday morning (Monday). The fire, which began around 11:00pm between Camino Perera and Ladera La Pintora, was brought under control by 4:00. It burned approximately seven hectares of brush, dry grass, shrubs, and eucalyptus trees.
Authorities have questioned several eyewitnesses who say they observed the fire's ignition. The investigation remains ongoing, with both the Local Police and the Guardia Civil actively seeking more information about the incidents.
Mayor Gil urged the public to report any suspicious behaviour or presence in abandoned agricultural lands or slopes to the authorities. He emphasised the importance of community vigilance in preventing further incidents.
