Two detained for stealing a suitcase and a wallet at Tenerife South airport

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into a 71-year-old woman from Güímar, and a 28-year-old man from Candelaria, for two separate incidents at Tenerife South airport involving the ‘misappropriation’ of a suitcase and a wallet.

The agents, belonging to the Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF) of the Airport, have been brought in to investigate the woman because, after finding a travel suitcase in the airport public car park that its rightful owner had inadvertently left behind, put it inside her car to keep it.

In the other incident, the 28-year-old man being investigated is an employee of a rent-a-car company based at the airport, who found a wallet inside a car that a client had dropped off, containing personal documents and cash, and decided to keep it.

Both missing items, and the circumstances around them, were reported by their owners, so the police started to investigate. The owner of the suitcase confirmed when and where they had left it, so agents quickly identified the woman and the car she had put it in by looking at airport CCTV footage.

The rent-a-car company was able to confirm which member of staff had received the car from the client, as his signature was on the paperwork, making it easy for agents to locate both perpetrators and return both the suitcase and the wallet, which contained 800 euros in cash, to their rightful owners.

Both will now be charged accordingly for the crime they committed by the Judicial Authorities.
